The second of April 2022 was an eventful day. Rapunzel, our sixteen-year-old, was drifting away when ‘The loss of a pet,’ a book gifted to us by a close friend was received. She had sent it to help us navigate through the rough patch the first quarter of 2022 had begun; the loss of Tweeky (16+), Ronaldo (8+) and Mallika (14+). In another half an hour thereon, Rapunzel too had left. After she was laid to rest, I tried to go through the book with blurred eyes. Nothing made sense then, I was too tired and numb. I kept it aside and closed my eyes when I heard Maa talking on the phone about a stray dog in distress. 4 0
The bond we share with our companion animals, homed (pets) or un-homed (strays), is the purest form of love. As a natural corollary, their loss hits us hard. If you want to share grief, cry, find strength, lighten your heart, or stand in solidarity with those who have lost their animal companion (homed or un-homed), please join us for the support group meeting on the 26th of June at 2030 hours Indian Standard Time. Write to us at bridgingrainbows.india@gmail.com for the meeting ID and passcode. We also bridge time zones, you are welcome to join us from any part of the world. 4 0

Only if senior stray dogs were allowed to live in peace, innocents like Bholi would not have to die an untimely death, but could have lived longer. 7 1

All the children are special but some are more special for reasons unknown. Ronaldo or Ghodu or Godam Baba, as we used to call him affectionately, was a hero on three legs, an accident survivor, an amputee, a loving and a caring brother to Natasha and above all, the life of the house and the love of our lives. He was hope in the darkest of hours. It was a huge battle to come to terms with Ron's death earlier this year, the wound is still very raw. 20 2
The loss of a companion animal is overwhelming for those of us who are profoundly bonded with them. 7 0
