All of us have different ways of navigating through the loss of a companion animal (stray or a pet). Given that it is one of the most disenfranchised forms of grief, many seek the company of kindred souls to find support to process the loss. Should you want to attend our meet, scheduled for the 11th of June (meetings are held every second and fourth Sunday of every month at 2030 hours Indian Standard Time), please write to me at bridgingrainbows.india@gmail.com with your name and context for the meeting ID and passcode. Participation is free of cost as it is a service in honour of our beloved Butter. 8 1
Dixa Babu came home to us under the most challenging of circumstances in 2021. Our association with him dates back to 2007, when he used to sing bark to welcome either of us, Maa or me, every day. It was followed by a tight push in an attempt to make us fall. He was a brat, a right-hand man to Mukhiyaji, the group leader, and together they went about throwing their weight to bully Fringy and Socks, the other pack members. A stray dog is often termed dangerous even if he barks, so our Dixa Babu fell in that category although all he had to offer to mankind was unconditional love. He would rub his head on our clothes for extra attention. When Dixa Babu lost Mukhiyaji in April 2020, to a run-down, he began to age all of a sudden. Stray dogs do mourn and grieve the loss of their pack mates. For two days, he skipped food. Thereon, he became a silent shadow of his former jovial self. 7 0
It gives me immense happiness to share that I will be contributing my close to two decades of learning to ‘Free Roaming Dogs of India, Mexico, and Costa Rica: Cognition, Emotion, Behavior’ to represent India part, to be presented at the Animal Behavior Society Conference 2023, to be presented by @billiegroom Ms. Billie Groom, an expert in canine cognitive behavioral therapy and a very dear friend of ours. 12 0
Two very important elements of our home are Kaanu, the one sleeping on the left and White Collar, the kid staring at him with almost opaque eyes. 15 1

Those grieving the loss of their companion animals are left in a limbo given the disenfranchised form of grief it is. Company and support of kindred souls can help in some way to navigate through the loss. Please join us for the support group meeting slated for the 24th of February at 2030 hours Indian Standard Time (IST). 6 0
There is rising propaganda against stray dogs aimed at whipping up hysteria that has a long-lasting ripple effect. So, here is a small effort to counter that by sharing some real-life episodes in the subsequent posts, that the two of us have experienced on the streets while tending to strays over the years. 13 0
