Sir,
Sub: Vadodara Municipal Corporation Dog catching vans with no number plates?
This is to bring to your urgent notice, a Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) dog catching van was spotted yesterday, on the 9th of August, 2023, at 8am at Talsat village, rural Baroda. To my shock, the van did not even have a number plate at the back. I tried to stop the driver but he ran away on seeing me. What purpose was the van being used for? Where were the caught dogs inside the van taken and most importantly, what for? Are they thieves who are dog napping the stray dogs under the pretext of sterilization in broad daylight?
A dog catching van meant for animal birth control (ABC) has to have a driver and a catcher with a ID. The van has to have contact number written in big fonts so that people can call and check about the whereabouts of the stray dogs. The van should carry a name of the Animal Welfare Organization assigned for ABC. This is basic accountability as already mentioned in the notified Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023.
I request you to kindly look into the matter as soon as such shoddy practices only corroborate about the stray dogs disappearing from the streets of Baroda.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Mrs. Hansa Roy
